Several team members of LNE Consulting recently attended the sports event of a lifetime.
El Clásico is home to one of the greatest rivalry in all of sports — FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid. For the first time in 35 years, the two teams squared off in the United States at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Fans from across the globe were invited to see two of the best teams in the world go head-to-head for the International Champions Cup.
Considering the rarity of this event, LNE Consulting‘s CEO, Julie Edmonds, decided to capitalize on the opportunity to attend. A heated competition kicked off in April, and over the course of several months, 80 vying candidates were eventually reduced to 6. In line with one of the company’s favorite mantras, “work hard, play hard,” it was most definitely time for these top performers to play hard. As if driving next to Real Madrid’s players on the way to the stadium wasn’t cool enough, during the game, the LNE Consulting squad got to upgrade to VIP seats next to the former president of Haiti.
With the starting whistle, the match was underway; the two best teams in soccer were fighting for the right to be International Cup Champions. Barcelona came out strong as they scored two goals within the first ten minutes (Messi 3’ and Rakitic 7’). They both found the back of the net with shots inside the box due to poor defense on Madrid’s part.
However, Barcelona had their commanding lead slip away as Madrid responded with two goals of their own (Kovacic 14’ and Asensio 36’) to tie the game at 2-2 going into halftime. At this point the momentum was on Madrid’s side and they were hoping to come out of half-time with the same approach. The game was beginning to look like it was going to come down to the last second as many anticipated.
The halftime show was performed by Mark Anthony which entertained the entire the LNE Consulting group. After the stellar performance it was back to business and both teams were ready to make history.
Barcelona came out hot once again pushing the ball downfield and controlling possession. After a beautiful cross by Neymar, Pique found the net and put Barcelona back up 3-2 with 40 minutes remaining. The level of excitement grew with each ticking minute but Real Madrid failed to score in the remaining minutes and Barcelona won 3-2 to claim the International Champions Cup.
The once in a lifetime El Clasico game was as exhilarating as promised and presented a great opportunity for the LNE Consulting team to bond outside of the office. What will Julie Edmonds have up her sleeve next?
